A narrow opening, especially one for receiving something, as a coin or letter. Also, a position in a series or sequence; an assigned place: They slotted me into the 2 pm time slot.
A machine that takes cash or paper tickets with barcodes (in “ticket-in, ticket-out” machines) and displays a series of reels with symbols, paying out credits based on the paytable when certain combinations are triggered. A number of different types of slot machines exist, including progressive ones that accumulate a joint jackpot, and flashy ones with multiple paylines and bonus features.
An open or empty position, particularly one that is reserved for someone. Also, a position in a group or sequence; an assignment: He got the slot as chief copy editor.
